How to read a supplement label
Every dietary supplement sold in the U.S. carries a Supplement Facts panel. Once you know where to look, it takes about thirty seconds to read one.
Serving size and servings per container
Everything on the panel is per serving. Check what a serving actually is (one scoop, two capsules, one stick pack), then look at servings per container to work out cost per serving.
Amount per serving and % Daily Value
Each ingredient is listed with its amount. Vitamins and minerals show a % Daily Value. Ingredients without an established Daily Value, like creatine, show an asterisk instead.
Proprietary blends
A 'proprietary blend' lists the total weight of the blend but not the amount of each ingredient inside it. That's legal, but it means you can't see exact doses. Labels that list every dose are easier to evaluate.
Other ingredients and allergens
Below the panel you'll find other ingredients (flavors, sweeteners, capsule material) and allergen statements. Check this part if you avoid dairy, soy, gluten or specific sweeteners.
Caffeine
Pre-workouts and some coffee products list caffeine. Add up everything you drink in a day, and avoid stacking two caffeinated products.
Third-party testing
Third-party testing means an outside lab checked the product. Every product we sell is third-party tested. Each of our product pages shows the Supplement Facts panel so you can read it before you buy.
Quick answers
What does the FDA disclaimer on supplements mean?
Supplements are not approved by the FDA the way drugs are, so labels carry a statement that claims have not been evaluated by the FDA and the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Where can I see the label before I buy?
On each product page, under Supplement Facts.
